Children being targeted with junkfood ads
Children are being exposed to adverts for high fat, high salt and sugary foods in favourite TV programmes.
A study of children's programmes broadcast on RTE and BBC found that unhealthy foods accounted for almost half of all food placements in children's programmes, while sugary drinks made up a quarter of drinks featured.
Co-author of the 2010 University of Limerick study Clodagh O'Gorman warned: "Unhealthy foods and beverages are especially common and frequently associated with positive motivating factors in children's TV adverts."
A spokesperson for RTÉ said the broadcaster was committed to promoting a positive and healthy attitude to life.
