Challenge to tax rate 'will be defended'
FINANCE Minister Michael Noonan says the Government is willing to go to court to defend Ireland's corporation tax.
Mr Noonan said he is anxious to ensure that any objections raised about Ireland's 12.5pc rate will be met with a vigorous response.
This is understood to be the first time that the Limerick TD has threatened to make a formal legal response to any legal challenge that might arise.
"We are defending our tax policies, in court if necessary, to ensure that our tax base is not eroded," Mr Noonan said.
The senior Fine Gael politician was speaking at a sitting of the Oireachtas Finance Committee last night.
