Boy (16) killed and man fighting for life after car crash
Teenage girl also taken to hospital after Tipperary incident
A teenager has died and a young man is fighting for life after a road crash in Co Tipperary.
Gardai in Borrisokane are investigating the single vehicle incident that occurred at Boston on the Ballingarry North to Cloughjordan road on Tuesday at approximately 3.45pm.
Gardaí say a 16 year old boy was fatally injured when the car he was a rear seat passenger crashed into a tree.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to University Hospital Limerick.
The two other occupants, a 22 year old male and a 17 years old female, were taken to Tullamore Hospital and University Hospital Limerick.
A garda spokesman said the older man is in a "serious condition".
This stretch of road was closed for a time to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and has since reopened.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact Nenagh Garda Station on 067 50450, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
It is the second tragedy on Tipperary roads this week after a pensioner was killed in a hit and run on Sunday.
Michael Stapleton (68), from Glengoole, Thurles, Co Tipperary, was hit a short distance from his house at around 10.20pm on Sunday.
It is understood that the man lived alone while his mother lived in a nursing home.
Mr Stapleton had family members living close by.
A man in his 40s was arrested in relation to the incident and questioned by gardaí. He was subsequently released and a file will now be prepared for the DPP.
