A body has been found in the search for a fisherman who went missing off west Cork.

The alarm was raised at 7.30pm on Monday evening when the man, understood to be in his 60s, failed to return to Schull from a fishing trip.

The search resumed at 6am on Tuesday, and a local fishing vessel located a body near rocks between Schull and Tourmore Bay shortly after 11am.

The inshore and all-weather RNLI lifeboats from Baltimore along with Coast Guard helicopter 115 from Shannon, the LE Orla Navy ship and the Community Rescue Boat from Schull have been stood down.

The body is being taken ashore and a post mortem is due to take place at Cork University Hospital later.

The missing man's boat was found near Long Island Bay on Monday night.
