Who would have thought that former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is a familiar face in China?

Well it turns out he is and has been a frequent visitor there since his departure from the Irish political stage in 2008.

He was pictured on the front page of yesterday’s South China Morning Post shaking hands with Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang above a story about ‘internet big hitters’.

Bertie was one of the "high-ranking political figures and industry tycoons” to give a lecture at the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, east China.

Representatives from almost 100 countries attended the conference that began on Wednesday.

According to CNC, Bertie spoke about cyberspace security, warning that the global community should be cautious about the risks of new internet technology like mobile finance.

The three-day event ended yesterday.
