Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams claimed on Sunday that he had been given the names of Brian Stack's alleged killers by the prison officer's son Austin (who denies this) - but insisted he had not spoken to the two figures involved, said to be senior SF politicians. He said this was not an election issue for SF.

But during an interview on RTÉ's 'Morning Ireland' yesterday, the Louth TD said that he had, in fact, spoken to one of the individuals allegedly involved. Mr Adams also told Cathal MacCoille that he did in fact speak to a party member about the issue. He also contradicted himself by saying that the matter was an "election issue" for Sinn Féin.
