Those hoping for a white Christmas will be left disappointed as it will be incredibly mild for the coming week.

Umbrellas could be more useful than our thermals over the coming days with wind and some rain expected, while temperatures rise to five or six degrees above normal for this time of year.

Temperatures will range as high as 15C before we need to grab our winter woollies for Sunday as temperatures take a dip.

However, Christmas week will see the return of milder weather with some wet, windy conditions also in store.

"The early days of Christmas week will turn mild, with wind expected," Dave Rogers of Met Éireann said.

"It wont be that high coming into next week, but we can expect temperatures of around 10, 11 and 12 degrees."

Weather forecasts for the end of next week are predicting that the weather will remain mild with a chance of rain - but no snow - on Christmas Day.
