A holiday then back to work for €6m winner

There were joyous scenes at the National Lottery Headquarters as the country's newest millionaire collected his winnings.

Gerard Murphy (52) from Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, collected his €6.3m cheque alongside his family after he won the weekend's bumper draw, but claimed he "will not be giving up the day job any time soon".

His brother-in-law, shopkeeper Martin Murphy who sold Gerard the winning ticket, said: "That shows exactly the kind of guy he is, he won't be getting carried away."

Gerard, who has four children and works as a carpenter, has played the same numbers for more than 25 years.

He said he hasn't figured out what he is going to do with his winnings yet.

"I'm going to take a long holiday somewhere hot and decide what to do with it there," he said.

His son Jack said Gerard has remained "calm and collected" since the win.
