Actor Jamie Dornan's domineering, bondage-loving character has become a fantasy for millions of women.

And it seems his Irish fans are no different.

Thousands of women are gearing up to make it a 'girl's night out' once 'Fifty Shades of Grey' hits Irish screens on Friday.

Universal Pictures, distributors of the movie, say it is set to cause box office chaos, with 55,000 advance bookings already made in Ireland.

The level of interest in the adaptation of author EL James' racy novel is "unprecedented", a spokesman told the Irish Independent.

"It's unlike anything we've seen before," he added.

Almost every cinema on the island - some 90 theatres - have signed up to show the blockbuster across 170 screens. Cinema goers are guaranteed an eyeful - it's billed as the steamiest Hollywood film in a decade. It has no less than 12 sex scenes between actors Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, with whips and blindfolds to boot.
