New strike fear at Bus Eireann
THE threat of a strike at Bus Eireann has emerged again after its largest union rejected plans to slash almost €5m from its payroll.
SIPTU members have voted against cuts to their premium pay, expenses and holidays.
Staff voted by nine to one against the compromise proposals, which have been backed by the Labour Court.
Bus Eireann said it noted "with disappointment" the union's decision.
It said it would have no option but to make the savings through pay cuts or reducing the number of staff, as it faced financial jeopardy.
SIPTU said it was willing to talk about new proposals.
