New pharma facility plans to employ 200
PLANS are at an advanced stage to start building a new biopharmaceutical facility employing 200 workers, writes Niall O'Connor.
A planning application has been lodged by US company Sangart to build a factory at Carrigtwohill, Co Cork.
The San Diego company will use the facility to produce a new medicine which helps supply oxygen to vital organs.
MP40X is an agent thought to the forerunner of synthetic blood. Sangart's product is currently under testing, but if approved it could greatly increase the chances of survival for people who have suffered significant blood loss.
Sangart, led by Brian O'Callaghan, said it hopes to be in full production in 2015 with a staff of up to 200.
