New house plans fall 38pc
THE number of planning applications granted for new homes continues to plummet, with new figures showing a drop of almost 40pc.
The CSO said yesterday that permission was granted for just 3,300 homes between April and June this year, compared with almost 5,400 in the same period during 2010 -- a fall of 38.5pc.
The biggest drop was for apartments, which fell by 70pc.
Just 711 applications for apartments were given the go-ahead in the second quarter of the year. This compares with just over 2,000 in the same period last year.
