A photographer has captured the strength of community spirit over the past 12 months.

Charity fashion shows, playground openings, dressage events, a High Nelly world record attempt, steam rally, fleadh and the country's favourite eclectic music festival, were amongst some of the highlights of 2011 for Alf Harvey.

'Life Through the Lens 2011', which is on sale for €19.99, gives a snapshot of life in the midlands.

Alf captured over 300 images for his book from the working life on a farm -- with the Mooney brothers Paddy and Jim at Dunmore, Durrow, Co Laois -- to the highlight of the agricultural calendar, the National Ploughing Championships.

"Twelve months of my life are represented here along with the people and places I have visited," said Alf.

"Every day brings something new and different," he added.
