Nestle recalls free mugs over crack fears
FOOD giant Nestle is recalling promotional mugs that came free with Nescafe coffee as they might crack when hot water is added.
The UK-based manufacturer took out advertisements in national newspapers across Ireland today advising customers not to use the mugs that are on offer with its Nescafe Gold Blend instant coffee. The mugs could be potentially dangerous if they crack when hot liquids such as coffee, tea or water are added.
No injuries have been reported, but a small number of Irish customers have contacted the company to complain about the cups.
Nestle spokeswoman Sally Pain said "no other Nescafe coffees or Nestle items or products are affected".
She added that the multinational company "takes the quality of its products seriously, including promotional items from suppliers".
The white mugs come with a 200g Gold Blend jar promo pack that hit the shelves here earlier this month. Retailers have been asked to remove the packs, and customers will be reimbursed for those already bought.
The mugs should be posted in a padded envelope along with the customer's name and address to Mug Offer Recall, PO Box 205, Freepost 1374, York, YO91 IXY.
