WITH Daithi O Se and the Rose of Tralee it’s a little complicated. The host suffered some opening night nerves before he introduced the first 18 contestants to the public from the Dome in Tralee.

O Se would be forgiven for also having wedding jitters – and one former Rose in particular – on his mind throughout.

For when the festival is over, Daithi and fiancee Rita Talty – a former New Jersey Rose – will finally have a chance to sit down and start making their wedding plans.

“We don’t know what date, what country or what continent but once she’s still with me after the next two nights I’ll be happy,” O Se said before taking to the stage.

“It’s going to happen hopefully some time next year,” he said.

Important “We have to plan it because there are kids involved, nieces and nephews and it has to happen when they’re off because we want them to be involved and that’s really important to both of us.”

But whenever they do fix a date it seems O Se will be doing his Dingle relatives out of a trip abroad. “I think it’s looking likely that it will be here in Ireland because both of Rita’s parents come from Co Clare,” he said.

“I think she has 10 aunts on her mother’s side alone and they’re all over here so I think it’s just easier if everyone came here.

“But I think the crowd in Dingle are upset about that then because they all wanted to go away to New Jersey,” he added. Rita is enjoying the festival – but O Se admits he’s missing out on the fun as he’s working – and spending a lot of time in his room making sure he’s rested for the big shows.

For the moment the Kerry man is focusing all his efforts on doing the best job he can in Tralee and plans a surprise for tonight’s final. He showed off his talents on the dance floor last night with his Stavros Flatley impersonation alongside London Rose Caroline Marley.

O Se also helped Texas Rose Danielle Ybarra out with her salsa routine. But the presenter claims to have another trick up his sleeve.

“Ray D’Arcy started calling them all by name. “I followed up by saying something about them so we’re trying to topple that this year,” he said.

O Se, however, was determined to keep the details close to his chest. All he could confirm is that it will be a one-off.

A nation holds its breath. Imelda May will also perform her new single at The Dome tonight, giving the judges a little more time to make up their minds.
