Nearly 1,000 islanders have voted already reporters

NEARLY 1,000 islanders have already voted in the presidential election.

Residents of Arranore, Gola, Tory, Inisboffin and Inisfree have cast their votes with polling stations open from 11am to 3pm, except Arranmore.

Two polling station there will be open there until 7.30pm to accommodate voters.

Islanders vote ahead of the rest of the electorate to ensure inclement weather does not hinder the return of ballot boxes.

The seven presidential candidates will take part in an RTE debate this evening.
