Murder on the bookshelves

A NEW book examines "the black-hearted villains from Irish history".

'Murder, Mutiny & Mayhem', by journalist and author Joe O'Shea (left), landed on the bookshelves yesterday.

The book explores the lives of some of Ireland's conmen and killers who caused havoc around the world -- such as Sir Hugh Gough who commanded the British troops in the first Opium War and Luke Ryan, a notorious pirate born in Rush, north Dublin in 1750.
