Murder inquiry launched into Latvian man's death

THE investigation into the death of a Latvian national whose body was discovered in a ditch has been upgraded to a murder inquiry.

The body of Juris Buls (30) was discovered near Glenamaddy, Co Galway, on Sunday. He is survived by his wife and daughter.

A 35-year-old fellow Latvian national, Sergejs Kraus, from Dudley Heights in Glenamaddy, was arrested late last week and appeared in court on Saturday on a charge of withholding information from investigating gardai. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Tuam District Court this morning.

Gardai are now understood to be seeking a second man in connection with the murder.

Results of the post-mortem have not been disclosed "for operational reasons".

Mr Buls had been missing from his home at Ballymore Road, Glenamaddy, since July 7. Officers are satisfied he was an innocent victim of a violent attack and are investigating if a previous minor row is connected.

Gardai at Tuam (093 70840) have appealed for information.
