NOEL BURKE (78) of Salthill, Galway, passed away from coronavirus in University Hospital Galway on May 26, 2020.
A retired garda, Mr Burke was a much-loved father-of-seven. He had cancer when he contracted Covid-19.
His youngest daughter Aoife Burke said goodbye to her dad for the last time over Zoom on May 25.
She describes him as “a strong, kind and hard-working man who loved his family”.
“He was well respected in the community and was very intelligent and witty," she said.
“My dad loved to fish, and there is an enormous fish in a glass case in our sitting room at home that he caught many years ago.
“My dad also loved cars. Often, there was a new car parked in our driveway over the years growing up.
“My dad taught me so much from learning to tie my shoelaces and ride a bike to passing on important life messages such as ‘don’t take shortcuts in life’ and ‘trust has to be earned’.”
She added: “We honestly thought we had a few more weeks, but Covid robbed that from us.
“My Twitter was flooded with messages of support, and I want to say a special thanks to everyone who contacted me at that time.”
