A MAN has died following a car crash in Cork.

The accident occurred on the Grenagh to Bweeng Road in north Cork shortly after 11.30am today

The man suffered multiple injuries in the collision and, despite desperate efforts by paramedics to stabilise his condition, he was pronounced dead before he could be transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH).

Gardai closed the road and implemented traffic diversions.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area and to use alternative routes.

Accident scene investigators began a painstaking examination of the road to determine the cause of the tragedy.

One theory being examined is whether weather conditions may have been a factor with mist and fog reported throughout Cork.

Gardai are working to confirm the identity of the deceased and to notify his relatives.

The man is understood to be in his late 30s or early 40s.
