Motorist and motorcyclist killed in separate road accidents

A motorist and a motorcyclist were killed in separate road crashes today.

A 32-year-old man lost control of his car on the N4 near Lucan, County Dublin, and the vehicle veered across traffic lanes and collied with a wall.

The incident happened just before 1pm on the eastbound section of the road. The crash happened close to the exit for Lucan.

Emergency services rushed to the scene. Members of Dublin Fire Brigade had to use cutting equipment on the vehicle. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.  He had been travelling alone.

Earlier, a motorcyclist lost his life in a collision in County Kildare.

The motorcyclist lost control of his motorbike and crashed on the Nicholastown Kilcullen Road between Kilcullen village and Mile Mile.

The crash happened at 1am.

The motorcyclist, a man aged in his early 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed to enable Garda forensic collision investigators to carry out an investigation at the crash site. Local diversions were put in place.
