Motorcyclist killed as bike crashes into stone pillar

GARDAI are investigating the death of a motorcyclist in a crash in Co Westmeath this evening.

The 36-year-old man was killed when his motorbike struck a fence and stone pillar on the old N6 at Gaulstown, Rochfortbridge, this evening between 7.45pm and 8pm.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident which occurred as the motorcyclist was travelling between Rochfortbridge and Milltownpass.

The man’s body has been taken to Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore, for a post mortem examination.

Gardai advise that the old N6 is currently closed between Rochfortbridge and Milltownpass to enable a forensic examination.

They have also appealed for witnesses or anyone who was on the old N6 between Rochfortbridge and Milltownpass between 7.30pm and 8pm tonight to contact them at Mullingar Garda Station on 044-9384000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda station.
