Motorcyclist killed after colliding with pole earlier today

A MAN has been killed after the motorbike he was riding collided with a pole earlier today.

Gardai in Porlaoise, Co. Laois are investigating the collision that occurred at  Kiloughan, Stradbally, Co. Laois on the Stradbally to Abbeyleix Road (R427).

The collision occurred at approximately 11.15am when a 69-year-old man collided with a pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to the morgue at Portlaoise General Hospital. No one else was injured in the collision.

The road is currently closed pending the completion of an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
