Motorcyclist (55) killed in collision with van

A motorcyclist died after his bike collided with a van.

The fatal road traffic collision occurred at Lehinch, Hollymount, County Mayo this afternoon at around 1.30pm.

The man (55) was pronounced dead at scene and his body was taken to Mayo General Hospital where a post mortem is to be arranged.

The driver of the van was also taken to Mayo General Hospital as a precaution. No other injuries were reported.

The road was closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who was travelling on the R331 between Hollymount and Claremorris, between 1pm and 1.30pm to contact them at Claremorris Garda Station on 094 9372080, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
