A MAN in his 30s has died after his motorcycle was in collision with a car. He is the 20th motorcyclist to lose his life on the roads this year.

The crash happened shortly before 3pm outside Celbridge, Co Kildare. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road, between Junction Six on the M4 and the Maynooth Road, was closed for a number of hours as investigators examined the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Leixlip garda station on 01 6667800 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111.

Meanwhile, a woman inmate and two Irish Prison Service staff have been released from hospital with minor injuries after the van they were travelling in flipped over.

A suspected tyre blowout caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle on the M6 Dublin to Galway motorway.

The van was transporting the prisoner, who sources described as a "low-profile young lady", from the Dochas women's centre at Mountjoy Prison in Dublin to Galway Circuit Court yesterday morning.

The van overturned near the Carrabane overpass between junctions 16 and 17 of the M6 between Loughrea and Athenry in Co Galway.

The occupants of the van were shaken and suffered minor injuries. They were released from Galway University Hospital last evening.
