English police believe a missing 11-year-old girl could be in Ireland and have appealed for any information on her whereabouts.

Kathleen Doherty, from Greenford in London, was declared missing last week along with her sister Biddy (14), who was found last night.

Police are now urging extra diligence when it comes to finding Kathleen.

Both girls are members of the travelling community and they are believed to have family connections to north London, where Biddy was discovered, and the Republic of Ireland.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed: "One of the sisters has now been found. We believe Kathleen could be in parts of north London or potentially, the Republic."

Biddy is currently in the care of her local authority and the High Court have issued a similar writ for Kathleen.

Anyone with information on Kathleen's whereabouts is urged to contact Gardai on the confidential line, +353 1800 666 111.
