BROADCASTER Miriam O'Callaghan is planning to go on her first family holiday abroad in four years.

The 'Prime Time' host told the Irish Independent that she and husband Steve Carson will whisk their family overseas this summer, for the first time since 2009.

The mother-of-eight usually holidays with her brood in Kerry, but will set out for two weeks in the well-known Algarve resort of Quinta do Lago, in Portugal, in August.

"We haven't gone out of the country for four years and we used to go to Portugal a lot, so this time will be the first in a long time. Whenever we go away, it's like taking a tour party, and it's expensive for my family because there are so many of us and everyone wants to come," she said.

O'Callaghan was speaking at the launch of 'Heaven Cent', a joint fundraising initiative that aims to raise €2m to help fund treatment for patients in Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin, and Temple Street Children's Hospital.
