Miracle’ Kerry baby takes first steps
A Kerry baby born four years ago without stomach muscles has taken his first steps.
Listowel-born Mikey O'Connor was born with 'Prune Belly' syndrome and doctors had warned that he might not even have survived his mother’s pregnancy.
His next hurdle is reconstructive surgery on his stomach.
Mikey is one of just two children in Ireland who suffer from little-known but often fatal "prune belly" syndrome, a rare genetic condition that has left him without any stomach muscles and chronic kidney failure.
Doctors feared the worst when his mother Emma McGlynn underwent her first scan and feared he would not survive the pregnancy.
