Minister taunts celebrity flop
FINANCE Minister Michael Noonan went into his best put-down mode yesterday when he was asked about the failure of Taoiseach Enda Kenny to enter a fiscal treaty debate with Libertas leader Declan Ganley.
"Why debate with Declan Ganley? Declan Ganley was never elected to anything in this country. The one time he tried, he got a derisory vote. Declan Ganley is a kind of self-appointed celebrity. While he has a strong view, it is not a representative view," he said.
Ouch. But Declan was undeterred yesterday and repeated his call for a No vote on the grounds that the €700m European bailout fund would not have enough money for everyone.
"It is hundreds of billions too small, even after we hand over €11 billion of Irish taxpayers' money to it," he said.
