Ming shows no mercy to Mick in kickabout
IS this another political own goal? The country's going to hell in a handcart and here are a couple of our TDs acting like a pair of right headers. . . right in front of a sign forbidding ball games.
But it's all in a good cause. New deputies Luke Ming Flanagan and Mick Wallace took time out for a Paddy Power penalty shoot-out in Dublin's Merrion Square to raise funds to send an Irish team to Paris next August for the Homeless World Cup.
Independent Tipperary North Mattie McGrath (no stranger to hopping the ball) also turned up, as did Dublin Central's Maureen O'Sullivan and former Green TD Paul Gogarty, who has something in common with Wayne Rooney (a shared fondness for roaring the F word).
This year a team from each county is being put together for an all-Ireland competition to raise funds, and Mr Wallace may put forward a team from his own club, Wexford Youths.
And it turns out his buddy Ming is "quite handy" with the ball, according to Mick.
The pair are often spotted chatting together in the Independents' corner of the Dail chamber -- a spot dubbed Bash Street Corner.
"We could put a Bash Street team together and we'd give anyone a run for their money," joked Mick.
