Michelle on trend with bird prints

Bairbre Power Fashion Editor

MICHELLE Obama dressed thoughtfully for her day in the Irish countryside, choosing a bird-print two-piece, comfy sneakers and a waxed jacket . . . just in case it rained. But it didn't, and the girly trio of mum and two daughters enjoyed a relaxing, dressed-down day in Glendalough.

Malia and Sasha wore casual sneakers, sloppy jumper and jeans, zipped hoodie and tee. The girls could have been headed to the mall for a day's shopping or to the movies, but Michelle made a special attempt to chose a nature theme for her visit to the Garden County.

Ornithology prints have been very much on trend of late, repeating bird prints have flocked, and nested, on women's and men's clothes.

Michelle yesterday chose a pretty reverse print of hummingbirds and other feathered friends.

The birds were outlined in black on the white fabric of her ankle-grazer trousers and there was a reverse white print on the black blouse which she wore under a green waxed jacket.

However, she avoided the grey $560 Lanvin sneakers that caused so much controversy when she wore them to help out in a food kitchen in 2009.
