Melanie dismisses claims of row with Morah over book

SOURCES close to Melanie Verwoerd, the girlfriend of late RTE star Gerry Ryan, have played down any claims of a row between herself and his widow.

Media reports had suggested growing tensions between Morah Ryan and the former South African ambassador over the publication next Wednesday of the memoir 'When We Dance' -- in which she writes about her relationship with the RTE star prior to his death in 2010.

However, sources close to Ms Verwoerd (45) have denied any discord.

"Morah and Melanie have only met twice, and in very sad situations like Gerry's inquest," the source said.

"It's unlikely they could become friends now, but neither is there any antipathy between them. The row between Melanie and Morah is purely an invention by the media."

The Irish Independent has learned that Cape Town-based publishing house NB Publishers will issue 'When We Dance' in Ms Verwoerd's home country of South Africa in April 2013.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu has written the foreword for the book.

The first mention of Gerry Ryan is on page 205 of the 380-page volume.

Ms Verwoerd has previously said her reason for writing the book was a promise she made to the broadcaster to tell their story.

And the autobiography is expected to cover their two-year relationship, plans for the future as well as the financial and health difficulties endured by the RTE star leading up to April 30, 2010, when Ms Verwoerd found him dead, in his Dublin flat, aged 53.
