McAleeses up for peace prize

FORMER President Mary McAleese and her husband Martin, along with former US president Jimmy Carter and the queen of Jordan, are among the nominees for this year's Tipperary International Peace Award.

The winner of the prestigious prize will be announced early in January and will come from a shortlist of six nominees.

The McAleeses have been nominated for promoting justice, social equality, social inclusion, anti-sectarianism and reconciliation during Mrs McAleese's 14 years in Aras an Uachtarain.
