FORMER President Mary McAleese has spoken of “a whole new landscape of possibilities” that the peace process has brought.

At a ceremony at the Battle of the Boyne site at Oldbridge, Co Meath, yesterday, where the Boyne cable bridge on the M1 motorway was named Mary McAleese Boyne Valley Bridge, Mrs McAleese said it was “wonderful and poignant” that it was a bridge that lets people travel easily between the North and South, as “we have made journeys of the heart to one another in order to be here”.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny paid tribute to Mrs McAleese, saying it was a “fitting tribute that the bridge spanning the Boyne will be named after a President who bridged the divide between the two traditions on this island”.
