Mayo fans to take over Mains Street

Q THE centre of Mayo's largest town will be transformed this afternoon into an official 'fan zone'.

Traders on Castlebar's Main Street are hoping for a sea of green and red as the street will be pedestrianised between 10am and 3pm.

According to event organiser Michael Baynes, today will be a "fun day for all the kids with a chance for all participants to win two coveted All-Ireland tickets".

Prizes for the best Mayo song and best Mayo car will also be on offer.

"It's a chance for people to gather and talk about the match. The team will be gone so we can't be accused of hype," joked Mr Baynes.

Other events will include free sean-nos dancing classes with Dave Gallagher from midday, bouncy castles and face painting.

Traders in Castlebar are asked to join in the occasion and encourage all staff to dress in green and red for the day, while local radio stations will also be on site.
