Matt Cooper's wife: 'My stalker pointed his gun at me'
The wife of radio star Matt Cooper has revealed that she was held at gunpoint by a stalker.
Aileen Hickie was on TV3's panel show Midday where the presenters were discussing social media stalking.
During the programme, Ms Hickie revealed she had been stalked and told the panel about the harrowing ordeal.
As a young woman she was working in a restaurant in America one summer when a male colleague took a disturbing liking to her.
"I was actually stalked," the barrister said.
"It was a good few years ago when I was working in the States, waitressing.
"The dishwasher took a shine to me and kept asking me out. He was buying me concert tickets and following me around the place."
The situation quickly took a creepy turn when the man would wait in his car outside her house at night.
"I would wake up in the middle of the night and his car would be outside," she said.
Then one night he showed up at her hotel room.
"It culminated when I was staying in a motel and he turned up one night with a gun," she said.
"He was saying, 'You're going to the concert or I'm going to shoot you'. He was pointing the gun at me."
Luckily, Ms Hickie was saved after the man was spotted.
"A whole crowd of people came over and got him to the ground and took the gun off him," she said.
"We didn't report him to the cops in America because my friend was there illegally. That was scary.
"I don't know what became of him after that."
