An elderly couple have been robbed by a gang armed with a screwdriver and poker at their home in Co Derry.

The man in his 90s and woman in her 70s were held in the kitchen of their house at Boleran Road, Garvagh by two masked intruders who were dressed in black. Two other masked men ransacked the property.

The attack happened on Thursday but it is still unclear whether anything was stolen.

Police have appealed for anyone who saw a white pick-up type vehicle in or around Garvagh to make contact on 101.

This is the latest in a spate of attacks against the elderly.

Earlier this month, thieves pulled a wedding band from the finger of an 83-year-old woman after breaking into her home in Magherafelt, Co Londonderry.

Last month a pensioner in east Belfast had her hands bound by three masked intruders who stole rings and credit cards.
