Marathon woman's long way down

AN Irish woman hopes to complete the equivalent of nearly three marathons a day and set a Guinness World Record by running from Malin Head to Mizen Head in five days and raise €70,000 for the Irish Carers Association in the process.

Joanne Ui Chrualaoich Fearon (37) was pictured doing her stretches at Malin Head, Co Donegal, yesterday before setting out from the lighthouse there.

She will reach Athlone by this evening. By tomorrow night she aims to have reached Kilmallock in Co Limerick, by Monday night she hopes to be in Bantry and the finishing line in Mizen head on Tuesday.

She will need to cover 70 miles or nearly three marathons each day for five consecutive days and, if successful, will be the first Irish person to do it. "I have done 100 miles a day before but never had to get up the next day to do it again," the UCC employee said.
