Manuela charity gets boost of €50,000
MORE than €50,000, raised at a special concert in memory of tragic Swiss teenager, Manuela Riedo (pictured above right) is to go to help victims of violence in the west of Ireland, writes Brian McDonald.
Manuela's parents have decided that the money raised at the Galway concert last October should be spent on causes linked to their daughter. Manuela (17) was only three days in Galway at the start of an English-language course when she was murdered by Gerald Barry (30), on October 8, 2007.
In a letter to the organising committee of 'A Night for Manuela', Hans Peter and Arlette Riedo told of the warmth they had experienced from the people of Galway in the time since their loss. "Even now, when we look back at those pictures of the 'Night for Manuela' we cannot describe it in words," they said. "It is now our wish that this money will remain and will be spent in Galway and the west of Ireland, supporting services and projects that do invaluable work, work that is at the heart of Manuela's Foundation."
