Man stabbed in stomach at his home

Pat Flynn

GARDAI are investigating after a man was stabbed in the stomach by an unidentified attacker who called to his home.

The incident took place at around 6.30am yesterday in the usually quiet Cluain Airne housing estate in Shannon, Co Clare.

The victim answered a knock at the front door and was confronted by a knife-wielding man who plunged the weapon into his victim's stomach before fleeing on foot.

The victim called gardai and paramedics treated him at the scene before rushing him to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick. He was due to be released last night.

The attacker is described as being between 20 and 25 years of age, 5' 8" to 5' 9" in height and wearing a green jacket or shirt.

A sister of the victim was shot dead in October 2001 by her ex-boyfriend, who turned the gun on himself.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Shannon garda station on 061 365900.
