Man 'slashed across face, torso and neck' in stab attack in Cork

A MAN is recovering in hospital after a stabbing incident overnight in Cork.

The man, understood to be in his 30s, suffered stab and slash injuries following an incident in Gurranabraher.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment of what is described as a non-life threatening injuries.

The man was apparently slashed across the face with a knife or blade. The attacker then stabbed and slashed at his upper torso and neck.

Gardaí later arrested a young man in connection with the incident.

The man, who is in his 20s, is being questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be detained for an initial period of 12 hours.

Gardaí hope to be able to speak with the injured man as soon as he is recovered sufficiently to be interviewed.

He is currently in a stable condition.

It is the second stabbing incident in recent days in Cork.

Earlier this week, a man suffered multiple non-life threatening injuries after being stabbed and slashed following an incident that involved a number of young men.
