A MAN was shot in the leg in a late-night gun attack in a laneway between housing estates.
The 21-year-old was shot in the lower leg at around 9.20pm last night in Coolock, north County Dublin.
The incident happened near a green area in the Moatview Avenue housing estate near Priorswood, Dublin 17.
The man was taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment for his injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.
A neighbour came across the scene shortly after the shooting and said the young man appeared to have minor injuries.
"I saw him getting into the ambulance, he was able to walk, he was hobbling," he said.
Another neighbour said he "heard a bang and then saw a flash in the laneway".
He said the man appeared to have been shot in the ankle.
Locals said that they did not recognise the man and did not think that he lived in the area.
The scene was sealed off to facilitate a forensic examination of the area.
Gardai with flashlights thoroughly searched the green, while the garda helicopter searched from the air.
This is the second shooting incident in Coolock in less than a week.
A 22-year-old was shot in the leg and arm outside a shop in the Ferrycarrig Park area last Thursday.
Two shootings a few hundreds yards apart within a week
