A MAN in his mid-twenties has been shot dead in a gangland attack in a pub close to Dublin city centre.

The man – who has a number of criminal convictions – was shot in The Cabra House pub in Cabra, Dublin 7, at around 7.10pm this evening.

He was shot by a lone masked gunman who entered the bar and fired six shots.

The gunman ran from the pub and jumped on the back of a waiting motorbike. The driver and shooter fled in the direction of the city centre.

The victim, who was in his mid twenties, died at the scene.

The scene remains sealed off and the State Pathologist will carry out a post mortem on his body.

The victim, who is from the Cabra area, had been released from jail recently after serving a sentence for drugs offences and a consecutive jail term for assault.

His shooting dead is the fifth fatal gun attack so far this year

In April 2010 major criminal Eamonn Dunne was shot dead in the nearby Fassaugh House in Cabra as he attended a birthday party.
