A MAN last night shot himself dead in front of a woman in a hairdressing salon.

It is understood he walked into the premises yesterday afternoon and ordered everyone else out before turning a gun on himself.

The man, in his 20s, was already dead when emergency services arrived at the scene, opposite Dungannon's South Tyrone Hospital, shortly after 4pm yesterday.

It is understood his girlfriend or former partner was with him when he shot himself.

The man is believed to be from the Brantry area, about five miles south of Dungannon.

Last night, people in the Co Tyrone town were left stunned by the tragedy at B Moore's hairdressers on the Carland Road.

One local woman said: "It's terrible. I just can't believe this has happened. It's so sad."

Pat Daly, deputy mayor of Dungannon, said the community would rally round and support the dead man's family and friends at this difficult time.

"My thoughts are with the family and everyone else involved at this heartbreaking time," Mr Daly said.

"This has come as a total shock to the whole community."

Last night a PSNI spokesman said: "A male aged in his 20s has died following a shooting incident at commercial premises in the Carland Road area of Dungannon this afternoon.

"Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident but are not looking for anyone else in connection to this death."
