A man has been seriously injured in a gangland style gun attack.

The shooting happened in a housing estate in Bray, Co Wicklow, shortly after midnight.

Gardai said the 39-year-old victim was hit in the upper part of his body when shots were fired through the window of a house in Heatherwood, just off the Boghall Road.

He was rushed to St Vincent's Hospital, where his condition is described as serious.

It is understood he was shot seven times.

The victim is known to gardai, and had only recently been released from prison.

A 41-year-old woman who was also in the property at the time was not injured.

“The house has been sealed off for a technical examination,” said gardai.

“Gardai are appealing witnesses or for anyone who may have seen any suspicious behaviour in or around the Heatherwood Estate in Bray, which is just off the Boghall Road, to contact them.”
