Man remanded in custody in relation to death of a man in Celbridge

A man has been remanded in custody after he was charged relation to the death of a man in a house in Celbridge, Co Kildare in September last year.

John O'Sullivan (28) of Willowbrook Park in Celbridge was arrested on Tuesday evening in the Leixlip area and was charged with the manslaughter of Noel Winterlich (37) at Leixlip Garda Station.

He was brought before Judge David McHugh at Blanchardstown District Court this morning where he was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Tuesday, November 15.

Mr Winterlich (37), who lived at various addresses in Kildare, Meath and Dublin in recent years, was found dead in a house in a house in Willowbrook Park, Celbridge on September 29, 2015. The father-of-one was pronounced dead at the scene that evening.

Mr Winterlich was well known to gardai and had engaged in petty crime to feed an alcohol and drug addiction. He had over 60 convictions, many for drink and drug related minor matters.

Dressed in a black Adidas tracksuit top, grey tshirt and blue jeans O'Sullivan did not address the court during the three minute hearing.

Sergeant Gerard Moore of Leixlip Garda Station told the court he arrested O'Sullivan and charged him at 7.55pm on Tuesday, November 8th.

“In reply to the charge after caution, he made 'no reply,” said Sgt Moore. He said there was no application for bail.

Judge David McHugh granted O'Sullivan free legal aid due to the “seriousness of the charge.”

He remanded O'Sullivan in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Monday at 10.30am.
