Man remains in serious condition following savage attack in industrial estate

A businessman remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital today following a savage attack at an industrial estate yesterday.

The incident, which occurred shortly after 5pm in Churchfield on Cork's northside, saw a man in his 30s attacked as he was parking his van in preparation for ending his day's work.

The victim sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries in the incident and was transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH).

His condition is understood to be serious but stable. It is understood he suffered a fractured skull, broken legs and several broken fingers.

Gardai later arrested two men - aged 19 and 25 - in the Churchfield area in connection with the attempted robbery.

Both are being questioned at Gurranabraher Garda Station.

The duo are in their 20s and can be held for an initial period of up to 24 hours.

Gardai are checking CCTV security camera footage from the area and have also appealed to any witnesses to contact them.

They are asking for people who may have been in the Churchfield Industrial Estate between the times of 4.45pm and 5.00pm to contact them.
