A 27-year-old man is recovering in hospital after he was shot in a housing estate.

The victim, named by gardai as Robert Donoghue, was shot at least once in the shoulder in Kinsealy, Co Dublin, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The incident occurred shortly before 11pm on Saturday night at Russell's Terrace just off Kettles Lane. One 18-year-old resident, who declined to give her name, was the first on the scene. She said two female acquaintances of Mr Donoghue rushed to his aid. Gardai arrived shortly afterwards, followed by the emergency services.

The scene was sealed off for a technical and forensic examination yesterday. Anyone with information is asked to contact Coolock garda station on 01 6664200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
