Man recovering after being shot in housing estate

A 35-year-old man is recovering in hospital after a shooting in an estate in Drogheda, Co Louth.

The incident occurred on the Moneymore Estate in the Co Louth town around 6pm on Sunday evening.

The man, who received gunshot wounds to his leg, received treatment by paramedics at the scene of the incident and was subsequently  rushed to the nearby Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital where he was today receiving further treatment for the injuries.

However his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A garda spokesman said this morning that a man (19) has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He is being detained at Drogheda Garda station under the provisions of section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.

A scene was preserved for a time last night and gardai from Drogheda are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at Drogheda Garda Station on 041 9874200, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
