Man loses fight for life after house blaze in city

A man died following a fire at a house in Dublin last night. The fire broke out in a cottage in the North Strand area of the city shortly before 9pm.

The man was taken from the scene by Dublin Fire Brigade ambulance to the Mater Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A number of fire engine crews from Dublin Fire Brigade battled the blaze at the house on Hiberian Avenue.

Gardaí sealed off the property last night. A forensic investigation is due to be carried out today to determine the cause of the fatal blaze.

The victim was more than 60 years of age, according to a fire brigade spokesman.
